It's also no wonder that writing became an integral part of my life. At age 8, I wrote my first short story. In school, writing essays was something I considered fun, if not easy.

MORE THAN FICTION
In the early 1980's, I learned the art of direct mail copy writing. That may not seem like much to some, but those in marketing can appreciate a 63% response rate on warm market direct mail.

"Touch the Stars: Emergence," was co-authored by myself and John Dalmas, published by Tor Books, selling nearly thirty thousand copies. While far from a best-seller, it is still considered moderately successful, practically earning out the advance on royalties given the authors.

In college, I won two awards for writing — the Dutton Books award for best short story, "Toady," and the Krupnik Essay Award for, "Outsiderness in the Scientific Community." Concurrently, I used my technical writing skills while working at Ceridian (formerly Control Data Corporation), developing software training materials.

MORE TECHNICAL STUFF
While at Global Database Marketing, in Scottsdale, Arizona, I developed and wrote numerous bulletins on technical procedures and data cleansing theory. And, of course, as a programmer, a fair amount of technical writing is involved in the proper documentation of programming code, testing analysis, and debugging reports.

MORE TO COME
I continue to hone my creative writing abilities. For awhile, I was a member of the Phoenix area Barnes & Noble, Writers Round Table, a group of mostly professional, and a few fledgling writers, each with a strong motivation to master the art of words on paper (or in any other media). I am also a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA), the professional association for writers of the genre.
