Logic, math, and science have always been strong suits for me. Before PC's, I could hardly wait to get my first programmable calculator. 3D calculations were a slow, painstaking process with a maximum fifty-step program, but ever a labor of love. Always pushing the envelope, I later worked at machine level in the CP/M operating system on my first personal computer, experimenting with graphics on a machine not built for it. And, again later, I used assembly language to generate more colors on a machine designed for only sixteen.
PROGRAMMING & ART
While still in my art career, I began programming in Quick Basic, and later Visual Basic 3, massaging tables of data, creating data entry and data editing screens, as well as numerous data conversion routines. As an artist, I was keen on producing graphic representations of the data, making it understandable, and with an intuitive user interface.
THE SWITCH
When finally I decided to enter programming as a career, I studied for a full year at Computer Learning Center in Los Angeles, earning a 4.0 GPA with honors, in programming and systems analysis. Languages included C, Assembly, and Cobol, with months of hands-on experience.
While working at Ceridian (formerly Control Data), in Los Angeles, I continued my studies toward a BS in Computer Science, garnering a 3.7 GPA with over 50 units. At Ceridian, I had the opportunity to develop dBase 3 databases and reports for the sales force, plus presentation software in the Grasp Multimedia language and Visual Basic, using C language, with in-line assembly, to tweek the performance.
STRONG ON VISUAL BASIC
At Lynx Media, in Studio City, California, I continued to work in Visual Basic (version 5), building tools to convert client data for the company's proprietary subscription fulfillment software.
STRONG ON DATABASES
Later, at Global Database Marketing, in Scottsdale, Arizona, I managed the database department during the company's phenomenal early growth of more than 700%. Subsequently, I moved into programming development and testing, supervising other programmers, developing and running critical tests, and programming tools for use in the database department. Languages included Visual Basic 6, Access, VBA, SQL, and FileMaker Pro. Concurrently, I continued my studies, mastering Access with VBA at New Horizons, plus Java Object Oriented Programming at Glendale Community College.
STRONG ON WEB DESIGN
Finally, I set out on my own, doing web design, HTML, JavaScript, Java, application design in Visual Basic 6, and more. As always, I continue to add to my skillset, studying new technology or refreshing the basics. After learning more than twenty languages, it is surprising how much one can forget.
STRONG ON 3D
