The Aitken Double Star Catalogue
What is it?
Most star systems have at least two stellar bodies, so a great deal of astronomical literature is dedicated to multiple star systems. Astronomer, Robert Grant Aitken (1864 - 1951 CE), created in 1932 his double star catalog, the identities from which are still widely used. The original title was "New General Catalogue of Double Stars within 120° of the North Pole," but later came to be known simply as the Aitken Double Star Catalogue, or "ADS."
