Fertile Crescent

Cradle of Civilization in the Middle East

Perhaps the earliest signs of civilization occurred in the Middle East, in or around the region known as the "Fertile Crescent" — a crescent-shaped swath including the Lower Nile, the Levant, and the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The recent discoveries at Göbekli Tepe, Turkey show one of the earliest glimmers of man's need to settle down. The structures, carvings and artwork are dated to 9500 BCE.

Ancient Egypt

The most iconic early civilization is perhaps that of Ancient Egypt, with its pyramids and sphinx. These structures have produced more than their share of mysteries.

Ancient Mesopotamia

Perhaps the earliest civilization is that of Ancient Mesopotamia, between and near the biblical Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. This is the site of modern day Iraq.
